As reported elsewhere, our mumming season took on a different form this year. Instead of performimg before Christmas, leading up to our Boxing Day extravaganza, we opted to have our "first night" AFTER the dancing on Boxing Day, and then carry out our seasonal tour during the season of Misrule between Christmas and the New Year.
So it was that, on Tuesday 28th December, we made our circuit of three local pubs, ending up at The Angel in Glemsford.
This year, we also departed from tradition by introducing a new (to us) script, based loosely on a pace-egging play from Kirkby Lonsdale. It seemed to go very well although there were a lot of rough edges and unlearned words: we promise to try harder next year.
The Boxing Day performance was very well received. Tuesday was OK: The George and Dragon was largely unreceptive, although the landlord laid on freshly-cooked chips for us (thanks!); The Bull in Cavendish was more welcoming and participative (we scored a pint from the landlord, too - thanks very much!) and The Angel was very welcoming, if half-empty. Thanks, Jan, for the baked potatoes.
Altogether we enjoyed it and, more to the point, raised over £100 to go towards research into Multiple Sclerosis.
Thanks very much to all who contributed.
We'll be back.
Photos will appear when I get them back from the chemist.
Well: here they are at last - two group photos, at, appropriately, the "George and Dragon", Long Melford and "The Bull", Cavendish.
