The Stour Valley Mummers

In recent years, a new tradition has developed in Glemsford

Every year, just before Christmas, the Stour Valley Mummers take to the road to demonstrate the ancient art of mumming. The traditional tale of the battle between Good and Evil, between the Light and Dark is performed in pubs throughout this part of the Valley.

And then, on Boxing Day, preceded by the Morris Men of Little Egypt, the Mummers perform to a packed house at the Black Lion, Glemsford.

1997 was no different.

Nor, in fact, was 1998.
